This was sent to Habitat for Humanity Regina after Government Services was out to volunteer. It was completely unexpected and adored.

"I get back way more than I give. I see the families pride in home ownership, andthe positive impact it has on them."
Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity is addicting.
As a Habitat volunteer for the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work with people who are passionate about working together to make a difference. I began my commitment by helping to build homes here in Regina. In 2006, I decided to join the Board. Last fall, I went with a group of volunteers to build Habitat homes in El Salvador. It was extremely hot, the work was hard, the food and accommodations were basic and it was one of the best weeks of my life. I plan to take a group of FCC employees to El Salvador this fall to build more homes. I guess you can say that I am hooked!
To experience the difference that Habitat is making, you only need to attend one key turning ceremony – and I challenge you to leave with dry eyes. Hearing first hand about the opportunities that we are creating for Regina families is truly unforgettable.
We know there's a huge need for sustainable and affordable housing in our city. FCC employs more than 600 people in Regina and it's important for us to give back to the community we call home. Since 2008, we have volunteered over 1,400 hours at Habitat builds and we certainly are not done yet. We take our social responsibility seriously and will continue to find ways to give back to Habitat and other worthwhile causes in Regina and across rural Canada.
If there is one thing that I have learned from volunteering, it is that even small acts can add up to making a tremendous difference. We take so much for granted and I am frequently humbled by the gratitude of people who are thrilled to move into a home they can call their own – many for the first time.
I encourage everyone to take some time from their busy schedules and volunteer for Habitat. Not only will you be able to sharpen your carpentry skills, I guarantee you will learn something about yourself.

"Volunteering for Habitat in Regina is a deeply, completely rewarding privilege. Some examples:
Meeting and, especially, working with:
- interesting and interested women and men who volunteer (too many to mention) of all ages, building experience, and from all walks of life
- dedicated, committed, knowledgeable ‘site bosses’ (first Jack, then Chuck, Shannon and now Gary) who pull us together into effective teams
- its tireless volunteer coordinators (Fran and Susan);
- all the hardworking others so keen to achieve H4HR’s goals (such as Cindy, Dennis, and Teresa)
- most important of all, the families for whom the homes are built through our work together.
Learning some new skills (running a reciprocating saw!), using some old ones (filling nail holes!!), just having a good laugh before fixing our ‘mistake’ (I’ll bet you’ll never find it, it was fixed so well), or adding that special touch (those lilac bushes).
Getting into better physical shape (especially on those hot, hot days!).
Seriously, knowing that what we built looks good, ‘meets code’, is as environmentally friendly as possible on the budget, and will continue to look good in years to come.
And most special of all: Knowing that our wee efforts are making a difference in the lives of:
- the ‘Habitat’ families themselves: Moms, Dads, and their children, together with.
- their new neighbors and neighborhoods!
