The 100K in 100 Days gala event was held Friday evening at Rockbridge Realty on Dewdney Avenue and was a beautiful, fun evening for all of the ladies who contributed. 100 women each contributed $1000 for a total of $100,000 to help Habitat for Humanity Regina build another home for a hard-working, low-income family who will pay an interest-free mortgage.

The $100,000 will cover the costs of “bricks and mortar” for another family to achieve home-ownership.

The gala was a celebration of the accomplishment. The funds were raised in just 49 days – 51 days earlier than the original goal! What tremendous accomplishment for all involved.

Thank you to Essence Organic Hair and Day Spa for being the major sponsors of the evening along with Miller Thompson, Lawyers/Avocats, for sponsoring the beautiful charm designed by Rachel Mielke of Hillberg and Berk that each lady received as a memento of the occasion.

Crave Kitchen and Wine Bar treated the ladies to beautiful appetizers and tray after tray of delicious hors d'oeuvre. KOKO Patisserie contributed decadent treats. Champagne and fine wines were served.

Each of the ladies signed several two by fours that will be built into the home which will be under construction this spring with a projected completion time frame of fall 2012.

Special thanks to Thee Lingerie Shoppe, and Hillberg and Berk for helping to make the evening special and congratulations to Jade Gritzfeld for winning the original painting donated by artist Jason Robbins.

Let the build begin!alt

100K in 100 Days Turns Into 100K in 49 Days

100 Women fund a house for a deserving family

Habitat for Humanity Regina is thrilled to announce that 100 women have contributed $1000 each towards our “100K in 100 Days” project to provide another hard-working, low-income family with an opportunity for home-ownership. Kicking- off the project November 1st, a committee of women (Trish Bezborotko, Yvonne Slobodian, Nicole Richard, Kayla Mackay, Susan Hertz and Andrea Hoffman) set a goal of engaging 100 women to donate by February 8th 2012.

100 women signed on in just 49 days to reach the $100,000 goal. A celebration event, presented by Essence Organic Hair and Day Spa, is planned for late January in the Rockbridge Realty building. The home build will begin in late spring. All of the ladies, who contributed to this project, plan to work on the build site throughout the summer months with an estimated completion date in September 2012.

“I am over-the-top excited,” said Trish Bezborotko, Director of Fund Development with Habitat for Humanity Regina. “An amazing group of women stepped up so quickly to make this build happen and because of that another hard-working, low-income family with achieve home ownership. I look forward to working with all of these women who feel equally as passionate about helping another Regina family and feel fortunate and grateful for their generosity.”

The idea for the fundraiser was born after local business owner Yvonne Slobodian, of MYDR Health Management Group, U of R Allied Health Centre, Omni Surgery Centre, and asOne Investments expressed an interest in working with Habitat for Humanity Regina.  “I wanted to help Habitat for Humanity Regina
do something big – I wanted to see another family achieve their goal of becoming home-owners. So, Trish and I started an email and phone call campaign
and here we are 49 days later with the goal achieved and the focus now shifting to the build itself. Truly, I am not surprised at the enthusiasm from this
group of ladies.”

Boardwalk Rental Communities - Helping a Family Achieve Home Ownership

Habitat for Humanity Regina is very pleased to announce the formation of a brand new partnership with Boardwalk Rental Communities as one of Canada’s friendliest owners and operators of multi-family residential apartments. Staying true to what they are known for, Boardwalk has provided $75,000 in funding for a single-family home build in Regina for a hard-working family who want to achieve home-ownership.

Located at 1049 Retallack Street, the home is expected to be complete in the spring of 2012. Greg Panio and his four children received the keys to their brand new home at 1019 Rae Street – the result of the first Women Build project in Regina. Spearheaded by a committee made up of women, the house at Rae Street was primarily built by women with men also contributing their skills along the way.

Greg, overcome with emotion, explained that the house represents so much more than just a house. “It’s a new beginning, for me and for my kids. We are all excited to move in and make this house a home. I am so grateful to every volunteer and every person who helped make this project happen. Owning this home will give us the room we need as a growing family and will allow me to focus on their upbringing today but also their futures tomorrow.”
