On Tuesday, September 6th the Regina Pats and Habitat for Humanity Regina partnered for “Hockey and Hammers” with the Regina Pats on the site of a Habitat for Humanity home being built at 1412 Garnet Street. The Pats players and management team helped to raise the walls on this home and bring it to “lock-up” stage in an afternoon so it is fully enclosed before the cool weather sets in.

Pats players and management are also excited to be raising funds for Habitat for Humanity Regina with the “Habitat for Humanity Regina Home Opener” which takes place Friday, September 23 as the Pats begin regular season play versus the Swift Current Broncos.

Chad Lang, General Manager of the Regina Pats said, “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to take part with this build day with Habitat for Humanity Regina and to help a family get into their new home.  As an organization we appreciate all the support we receive during the season from all our fans and sponsors and understand the importance of giving back to the community and we strongly believe in this initiative as it allows us the opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity Regina and help out a local family and our community.”

The team is excited to start their season at home with the “Habitat for Humanity Home Opener,” where funds will be raised through ticket sales and other initiatives to support Habitat for Humanity Regina as the organization continues to provide homes for working families in need. More details will be released regarding the fundraiser in the days ahead.

Dennis Coutts, CEO, Habitat for Humanity Regina, commends the hockey club for taking the time to be a part of this “blitz build.”  “Blitz builds at this time of year are key to helping us get our homes under construction to a place where we are ready for when the weather changes. There’s no better way to do that than with a huge number of strong hockey players who are excited to contribute to our community. We are also very thankful that the Pats will contribute funds to help us keep building and we look forward to the home opener as fans and partners with the Regina Pats.

The afternoon was a huge success and both organizations look forward to doing this type of project again next year.
